Fuego make it a double

Fuego Champs made it a memorable season last weekend at the University Sports Complex after adding the KO title to their Division One league championship success.

Fuego Champs, undisputed leaders in Division One, clashed against the league runners-up All Ages Eurochange in another tight contest which went the champions' way 24-17.

It was the fourth direct encounter of the season between these two protagonists in the local netball scene. Fuego Champs won three but lost the Challenge Trophy to All Ages.

Sunday's final was very similar to the Challenge Trophy match. This time, however, it was Fuego Champs who finished stronger after coming from behind in the last quarter.

Fuego enjoyed a two-shot lead up till the third quarter. But, All Ages then managed to turn the tide slightly in their favour. Fuego, however, soon equalled the score and maintained their pace to go three points ahead.

Fuego opted for possession at this stage, a move that meant loss of precious time for All Ages. Fuego even found space to add to their tally, opening a seven-point lead which they never relinquished.

The umpires on the day were Odette Camilleri and Jennifer Mangani.

The netball season comes to a close this evening (start: 7.30 p.m.) with the Super Cup match, again contested by Fuego Champs and All Ages Eurochange.
