National Cinema Day on Saturday seems to have been a hit at most major cinemas.

About 18,000 people visited the Eden Century cinemas in St George's Bay and Fgura, while the Embassy cinemas in Valletta experienced a 25 per cent increase on the previous year and 92 per cent occupancy during the day, marking its best attended cinema day to date.

The Ninth National Cinema Day included a full day of varied entertainment and activities at these cinemas, with tickets costing only Lm1.30 and a variety of free gifts and goodies handed out.

This year's films included box-office hits such as the latest record-breaking animation movie Shrek 2, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Troy and The Day After Tomorrow, sure pulls for the cinema-loving public.
