How is the President of the European Court of Justice appointed?

The judges at the European Court of Justice elect the President of the court from among them. The President will serve for a renewable period of three years. The President's role includes the distribution of cases among the chambers, the appointment of a judge-rapporteur for each case, the appointment of hearings and deliberations and the dealing in chambers with applications for provisional measures.
