Jailed for heroin possession

A 25-year-old man was yesterday jailed for eight months for the possession of heroin with the intent to sell it in a Tarxien pet shop.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera heard how during a search at the shop where Roderick Vella worked the police found three grammes of heroin split into 24 roaches.

Consequently Vella, of Tarxien, was found guilty of the possession of the heroin in circumstances denoting it was not for his personal use on and before September 5, 2000, and driving a car in the direction of PS Marisa Bartolo during a chase.

Police Inspector Norbert Ciappara prosecuted.
