Euro 2004 has been an exceptionally clean tournament, with few red cards, thanks to the behaviour of the players and excellent refereeing, UEFA said.

UEFA communications director William Gaillard said players had responded well to the European governing body's fair play campaign. "We've not seen any dangerous fouls," he said. "There have been very few bad injuries."

Only six red cards were shown during the first 25 matches of the tournament.
