Stress on safety at sea

The Malta Maritime Authority has a new safety at sea logo in conjunction with the recent launch of its safety at sea campaign, now in its ninth edition.

The logo features the title of the campaign and a life buoy ring representing the promotion of the safety aspect of the campaign.

"The logo is in line with our efforts to promote safer seas for all," said Marc Bonello, chairman of the Malta Maritime Authority. "The creation of the logo was aimed at increasing the awareness of safety at sea in the public's mind. While continuously seeking to promote the utmost importance of safety among boat owners and swimmers alike, the campaign also aims to instil a safety at sea culture. However, no campaign can replace the need for the boating community, including windsurfers, jet-skiers, divers as well as swimmers, to be responsible at sea and respect all regulations set by the authorities."

Dr Bonello said that next week the MMA will be installing new educational boards with regulations and guidelines as part of the ongoing educational campaign. The boards will be installed next to all 20 designated swimmers zones.
