Portuguese police have detained 56 ticket touts and seized more than 500 tickets which were being sold illegally at Euro 2004, tournament organisers said yesterday.

Paulo Lourenco, a spokesman for the organisers, said action to stop touts and counterfeit tickets had been highly successful.

He said police had seized a total of 22,745 euros ($27,500) from touts of various nationalities.
