In Malta we are blessed with a number of writers of good literature quite disproportionate with the size of the population. Unfortunately our language, although rich and beautiful, is spoken by less than half a million people world-wide, and our writers' work, unless translated, is not known outside our shores.

Of course there are exceptions. Francis Ebejer's plays, for example, or many of Oliver Friggieri's stories.

Recently Kilin (Mikiel Spiteri) was gratefully surprised to learn that his collection of short stories, Angelo's Eyes, which had been published in The Sunday Times three years ago, is being read at the University of Siegen, Germany, by Professor Matthias Merzhäusen, as part of his study on works in English by Maltese writers.English.
