The Fraud Squad and the Customs department seized a quantity of alcohol being smuggled into Malta in the early hours of yesterday morning, the police said. The consignment was being unloaded from a vessel at Ras Hanzir.

The authorities seized 26 crates each containing six one-litre bottles of liquor. Two members of the crew were arrested, a Ukrainian and a Romanian, and they will be arraigned in the coming days.

Investigations are being led by the Police Economic Crimes Unit.
