On May 29 I had the pleasure to attend a political discussion organised by Alternattiva Demokratika at the Osborne Hotel and for which I was invited as mayor of Rabat.

As a Labourite I find myself very close to AD's politics in favour of a better and healthier environment. During this event I had the pleasure of meeting AD's guest speaker, Grazia Francescato, a prominent member of the Italian Greens and the spokesman for the European Green Party.

Ms Francescato and Alternattiva Demokratika, together with other organisations, took a clear stand against the proposed golf course under the Verdala Hotel, in Rabat.

I therefore took the opportunity to explain to Ms Francescato the Rabat local council's position against the proposed golf course development at Verdala. She showed keen interest in learning about the Rabat council's work aimed at attracting investment ventures that are sustainable and that respect the historical, cultural and social characteristics of the locality. A few years ago, she took the same position vis-à-vis this same proposed golf course in Rabat.

Holding very common principles, though coming from different political parties, I cannot but publicly express my personal gratitude for the kind and knowledgeable support of Ms Francescato, AD's exponents and other organisations have extended with regard to Rabat council's stand against the proposed golf course.
