Two young girls from Eritrea, Jesmina Kinfe and Helen Mezori, received their First Holy Communion yesterday at the Peace Lab, Hal Far. They arrived in Malta three years ago when they were shipwrecked along with their parents on the coast of Gozo.

They have been held in detention for two years and now are enjoying their freedom while staying at St Anne Complex at the Peace Lab.

Mass was celebrated by Fr Paul Galea, Minister Provincial of the Franciscan Friars Minor, assisted by Fr Dionysius Mintoff, the Peace Lab's founder and director.

A crowd of Eritreans turned up for the occasion and joined in with their prayers and singing. After Mass, the Provincial blessed St Anne Complex where a number of Eritreans are being offered shelter.
