Members of the St John Rescue Corps yesterday abseiled the Mdina bastions at the start of a five-phase clean-up operation of the centuries-old bastions.

The first three phases of the project, that is being undertaken together with the local council and the Mdina Rehabilitation Project, will be finished in June while the last two phases will be finished in October, the public relations officer of the Corps said.

The St John Rescue Corps, made up of volunteers who train on a regular basis, is taking part in this initiative as part of its mission statement to preserve national heritage.
