A court yesterday started hearing evidence against a 37-year-old man who stands accused of trafficking persons for the purposes of prostitution and the production of pornographic material.
A number of Russian women yesterday testified behind closed doors on a request by defence counsel Manwel Mallia and Giannella Caruana Curran.
The prosecution did not object and following a decree by Magistrate Giovanni Grixti the press was asked to leave the courtroom.
The man was arraigned late on Thursday and charged with living off prostitution, keeping a brothel and trafficking persons for the purposes of prostitution and the production of pornographic material.
Inspectors Louise Calleja and Raymond Aquilina prosecuted.
