A conference on The Unborn Child - Rights, Development and Protection was held by the Commissioner for Children together with the Group of the Unborn Child.
The Group of the Unborn Child is made up of a cross-section of entities, including non-governmental organisations, the political parties, trade unions, government departments and the Church.
In her opening speech, Sonia Camilleri, Commissioner for Children, described how the legislation of the Children's Commissioner specifically mentions the protection of the child both before and after birth.
Dolores Cristina, Minister for Social Policy, insisted on the prime importance of the promotion of a pro-life culture. "This pro-life culture can be strengthened with a greater emphasis on education and respect," she said.
The video When Your Unborn Child Is On Drugs, Alcohol Or Tobacco was presented by the Social Assistance Secretariat. The video visually describes the great harm caused to the unborn child when the parents, in particular the pregnant mother, make use of drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
