About 600 students are following a range of courses at the Swatar Training Centre - from basic IT competence certification through to BSc courses.
The STC organised its annual Open Day on Monday in a drive to promote ICT training as a viable, professional career option for young people.
During the event, participants discussed the need for students to gain internationally accredited qualifications.
This is likely to be the norm rather than the exception in the coming years, especially since the employment market faces the challenges and opportunities of EU membership.
IT is one sector geared up to offering students the possibility of attaining widely-recognised professional qualifications to help them enhance their career prospects locally and internationally.
Guest speaker Joanna Drake, a lawyer specialising in EU affairs, stressed that the EU has neither legal competence nor the desire to legislate on the harmonisation of member states' qualifications.
However, to assist the mobility of workers, the EU has made strides in promoting mutual recognition of qualifications.
STC is backed by MITTS, the government's IT consultancy wing, and Nucleus Training International Ltd, a collaborative venture comprising some 14 IT firms.
