At a social gathering in honour of Dr Wenzu Mintoff, the Labour Party candidate in Saturday's election for the European Parliament was highly praised and congratulated by MLP deputy leader Dr George Vella and his successor Dr Charles Mangion, for his willingness and eagerness to work for the cause of all Maltese workers.

Dr Vella said that he was highly satisfied with the candidature of Dr Mintoff considering that it was he who had encouraged him to go ahead with his candidature.

Dr Vella thanked all eight MLP candidates and made it clear that they were not buying a holiday ticket but are vying for a post which carried great responsibility and demanded considerable attention.

The Malta Labour Party, Dr Vella said, should be proud of having people like Dr Mintoff in its ranks. He had absolutely no doubt about Dr Mintoff's abilities and will surely not be disappointed if he is elected to the European Parliament. Dr Vella ended by wishing Dr Mintoff the best of luck.

Dr Mangion told those present that he has known Dr Mintoff since their University years in 1975 when they, together with others, launched a socialist students' union.

The MLP deputy leade praised Dr Mintoff and described him as mature, politically prepared and dedicated to the Socialist cause. Dr Mangion appeal to all electors to vote Labour, as the MLP's aim was to win three seats in the European Parliament. He thanked Dr Mintoff and all the Labour candidates for working as a team.

Dr Mintoff thanked all those who have helped him in his campaign. He referred to the Euro-Parliament election campaign as an experience that will forever be impressed in his memory. He thanked Dr Vella and Dr Mangion, whom he considered as a reference point.
