A new VoIP system launched last week by Keyworld allows you to make all local and overseas calls through your Internet system - as long as it is upgraded to broadband because anything less will not be able to carry the data at the required speed.

Broadband Internet subscribers, cable Internet users, and those with ADSL will be able to subscribe to this new system, called PhoneLine which offers heavily reduced rates on local calls within the PhoneLine network.

There are a variety of possibilities to make use of the system either through the use of existing phones at home or office including cordless telephones, or else through a special phone set or from a computer.

PhoneLine is a bill-free system. It is accessible to anyone worldwide. All they need to do is access the PhoneLine Website and subscribe online. All calls between PhoneLine subscribers wherever they may be, for instance from Australia to America, will still be charged as local calls starting from 1 cent per call.

There is to no difference in tariffs for home or business users. Users will have the service of the already operational help-desk at Keyworld, open every day till midnight and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays and public holidays. These calls will be free of charge to all PhoneLine users. PhoneLine's international calls will be passed through and backed-up by the largest private VoIP (Voice Over Internet) company in the world, Delta Three. Its engineers are operational 24 hours a day in New York and Jerusalem. All local calls are routed directly through Keyworld's OneVoice.

Keyworld is a subsidiary company of the A.M. Mangion Group of Companies. It is one of Malta's largest Internet service providers. It was the first private company to take advantage of the liberalised telecom market and launched OneVoice in January offering local callers the possibility of using VoIP technology to make radically reduced cost international calls.

Now PhoneLine will do to local calls what OneVoice did to international calls. A standard seriously-cheap rate will apply to all calls both local and international.

There will be two options with different rates to select from - either Classic or SuperSaver - in the same manner of the OneVoice cards already on the market.

Local calls will be 1c5 per call with the Classic tarriff or 1c per call with the SuperSaver tarriff from PhoneLine to PhoneLine users.

Calls to Maltacom will be 6c4 per pulse with the Classic tarriff or 5c9 per pulse with the SuperSaver tarriff. Mobile calls will work out at either 13c per minute with the Classic tarriff or 12c per minute with the SuperSaver tarriff. All these rates are inclusive of VAT.

There is a difference in the fixed monthly fee with each option: the Classic tarriff costs Lm1 per month including VAT and the SuperSaver Tarriff Lm3 per month including VAT. Both options include a telephone number to receive calls on, and all incoming calls are free.
