Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi yesterday said that on June 12 the electorate should vote for the most competent candidates and not for those who could just shout and "bark".

Speaking at the Nationalist Party headquarters, Dr Gonzi told trade union representatives that Nationalist EP hopefuls and Maltese trade unions had common goals to achieve through European Union membership, insisting that their respective agendas matched.

He said that while the civil society and the social partners had been called to work on the MEUSAC committee before accession, it would now be the duty of Maltese members of the European Parliament to keep in touch with the civil society in Malta.

Dr Gonzi encouraged the union representatives to tap into projects that the EU offered and which would help Malta improve its human resources.
