A 24-year-old man from Ghaxaq was yesterday placed under house arrest and granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm3,000 after he was charged with attempted murder.

Kevin Gatt was charged with trying to kill Vincent Spiteri, known as Censu negozju, his brother Ivan and Graziella Bezzina on Sunday night.

The police claim Gatt shot at the Spiteris and Bezzina at about 9.30 p.m. in Tarxien.

Gatt was also charged with being in possession of a semi-automatic pistol without a licence, firing it in inhabited areas and damaging Spiteri's Mercedes, valued at under Lm500.

He was further charged with driving recklessly and relapsing.

Police Inspectors Anthony Portelli and Malcolm Spiteri prosecuted.

Dr Joseph Giglio appeared for Gatt.
