'Helping Hand' recently won Maltese freelance photographer-reporter Domenic Aquilina an award in the FIAP XVIII International Biennial of Sports Photography.

Aquilina received a 'FIAP Honourable Mention Award' by the jury of this international sports photography contest for his entry depicting Marsa goalkeeper Jason Cordina helping former team-mate Minabo Asechemie to pick himself off the turf during a FA Trophy quarter-final match between Marsa and Valletta, at the National Stadium on May 12, 2002.

The FIAP Fotosport adjudicating panel deemed that Aquilina's entry - 'Helping Hand' - is worthy of an honourable mention in the category for the works that best represent sports as promotion of cultural diversity and co-existence'.

"Such award intensifies my drive to implement my photographic work with more professionalism and dedication," Aquilina said.
