Joe Cassar, chief executive Malta Sports Council, writes:

With reference to Angela Galea's contribution of May 21, I fully agree with the content of her letter but I have to correct her statement with regards to SkolaSport.

SkolaSport, running since 1987, is a national sports programme, taking sports to grass-roots levels at all ages and all levels of abilities.

Although the Malta Sports Council believes that SkolaSport should be given priority in facilities managed by the said entity, no SkolaSport activities have ever replaced an international meet or other competition.

On the contrary, this year SkolaSport activities at the National Pool Complex were once chalked off due to an international swim meet.

I have to point out that it has never been the custom of the management at the National Swimming Pool Complex to cancel or postpone swimming meets due to other activities including SkolaSport.
