A study published by the Brussels-based Centre for European Policy Studies sees Joseph Muscat, one of the eight Labour Party candidates for the June 12 European Parliament elections, as one of nine new European talents to watch for at the elections.
Mr Muscat made it to the shortlist from hundreds of candidates contesting these elections in European Union member states.
Mr Muscat, one of three Party of European Socialists candidates on the list, is the only Maltese on it. It includes Belgian, Danish, Dutch, Finnish and Swedish candidates. He is also the only candidate on the list from the new member states.
The CEPS report was compiled through a survey of national experts engaged by the European Policy Institutes Network.
Another Maltese candidate mentioned in the report is Nationalist Party candidate Simon Busuttil, who is identified in a European list of specialists running for the elections.
