We have the right to consumer education and this is why this subject is now included in the national curriculum. I remember, back in September 1992, when I took over this column. We started working on Consumer awareness/education. At the time, Lawrence Gatt was the Minister responsible for Consumer Affairs. Subsequently Joe Mallia, the Consumer Affairs Department director, who set up the department, head-hunted me to set up the Consumer Education section.

In July 1994 I originated the department's newsletter Fair Deal and I started giving consumer education talks to schools. Well, we never looked back and, at this stage, under the leadership of Minister Censu Galea, with Marcel Pizzuto as director-general of the Consumer and Competition division, we are still making progress and we must keep it up.
