Two open days were recently organised by Paola Primary School B to show parents and the community of Paola how much the primary school is committed to environmental protection and enhancement.

In a short opening ceremony held on Thursday, the head of the school, David Caruana, explained how these two open days involved the whole school community: the school management team, the teachers, the parents, the children, the local council, the school council and other members of the Paola community.

The guests included Charlo Bonnici, representing the Education Minister, Carmelo Abela, MLP spokesman on education, Ray Attard, the mayor of Paola, Fortunato Ferro, president of the school council, Vanni Galea, assistant director of operations, representatives of environmental NGOs and agencies and education division officials.

Yesterday parents visited the school in large numbers and were shown round by the children themselves, who explained how their classes have been involved along the year in environmental education.

Other displays were put on in the yard, with a dance, and in the school hall, with two plays - all revolving around the environment as a theme.
