The Malta Tourism Authority's product planning and development directorate has approved a Lm2 million expansion application for the Mellieha Holiday Centre, better known as the Danish Village.

The directorate's board discussed and approved the project on Wednesday and Dansk Folke Ferie, the company that runs the centre, has been notified.

The MTA said the application has now been submitted to the Malta Environment and Planning Authority for their evaluation.

Dansk Folke Ferie president Benny Overgaard said in an interview last week the proposed development would include 25 luxury bungalows, each with its own private pool and jacuzzi, a common indoor pool and conference facilities. The new facilities would be able to take up to 200 people.

The expansion would enable the foundation to venture into the business market and encourage seminars to take place in the holiday centre.
