An article by former President Guido de Marco entitled Europe's Date With Destiny featured prominently in the FCEM magazine which is distributed to all parts of the world. The article was based on the opening address delivered at the House of Commons in London in June 2003.

FCEM is the largest women in business association in the world, with regional offices in all continents. It represents women in business from over 50 countries and the Malta Association of Women in Business is a member of FCEM.

Rosanne Galea, president of MAWB, says that it is an honour to have Prof. de Marco's article featuring so prominently in the magazine. There are many countries which submit articles and which never make it because space is limited. To have a double page contribution from Malta is great.

The main points of the article emphasise the importance of European countries to grow together, the importance of uniting people, social justice, the role of Malta in Europe and issues relating to citizenship of the enlarged Europe. Prof. de Marco calls on leaders to appreciate and realise the importance of the countries in the Mediterranean.

On the recent appointment of three women to the Cabinet, MAWB says that it shows the commitment of the new Prime Minister in supporting the role of women. MAWB has been working hard in promoting women into leadership positions and is happy with this initiative.

Now MAWB wants to see more women within MCESD because the social partners should not be just the associations and unions presently represented in MCESD. There are no women on the main board and only a few in sub-committees. This is not acceptable. MAWB is also constituted and represents its members; nevertheless it is not part of MCESD. In all the other countries where there are members of FCEM, the local associations participate in such councils. Our non-participation is embarrassing. MAWB feels it can contribute in the discussions.
