Two men were yesterday each given a two-year jail term suspended for four years for theft.
Jonathan Attard, 25, of Iklin was found guilty of stealing a van to the detriment of Carmel Grech on April 20, 1999, damaging the van and crashing into two cars belonging to Gordon Mayo and Mario Attard.
He was also found guilty of the possession of a knife at the time of the commission of the crime and keeping and carrying it without a licence, stealing kitchen utensils from a Mellieha room in January 1999, stealing several car stereos and driving without a licence and insurance cover.
Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera ordered Attard to pay for damage caused.
In a separate case, Johan Sultana, 21, of Hamrun, pleaded guilty to breaking into a car in October 1998 and complicity in a crime.
On handing down judgment, the magistrate noted that Sultana first broke the law when he was only 12 years old and was not a first-time offender.
Inspectors Jonathan Attard and Frans Micallef prosecuted.
