Man injured in airport car park attack

Joseph A. Dougal, honorary consul for Sierra Leone in Malta, was seriously injured when he was attacked by a man at the Malta International Airport car park on Sunday morning.

Mr Dougal, 53, an industrialist who operates a cigar factory, said that at the time he was on his way to the airport cafeteria with his wife when he was approached by a man who insulted him and punched him.

Mr Dougal was hospitalised and was released yesterday.

Mr Dougal said he was taken to hospital suffering from a broken nose. He said he was not robbed during the attack.

After the incident, Mr Dougal's attacker ran to a car and sped off. The Dougals recognised the attacker and later reported the incident to the Luqa police.

A man was later picked up by the police for questioning in connection with the attack.
