The Eden Century Cinemas hosted the Malta premiere of Troy last Friday in the country's largest cinema, cinema 16. Tickets were sold out in the first couple of days and a capacity audience of 700 watched the film, which was partly shot in Malta.

As people congregated outside the cinema they were kept entertained by Grecian-looking human statues, while costumed extras from the film sold programmes and chatted with the cinemagoers. International TV stations and press were also present to cover the event.

Under the patronage of President Eddie Fenech Adami and Mrs Fenech Adami, the event was held in aid of the SPCA. A raffle was also held for a bronze statue from the set of Troy, allowing the SPCA to raise a little more money for their cause.

Guests were hosted to a reception at the InterContinental Malta after the film.

Ian De Cesare, managing director of the Eden Leisure Group, said: "We are proud to have made cinema 16 available for the premiere of Troy, to help raise money for the SPCA. This cinema is the very cinema in which Brad Pitt himself watched a movie while in Malta shooting Troy, which makes it all the more appropriate that his movie should be seen here for the first time."
