The annual Prize Day at St Theresa Girls Junior Lyceum, Mriehel, held on April 29, was an occasion where the best students were rewarded for their academic and social achievements.
In her address, the head of school, Ms Josette Mifsud Matrenza, highlighted the positive effects of direct parental involvement in the education of their children. She said research shows that attention at home helps students to achieve more.
Although the main item in the evening was the prize-giving ceremony, the audience present was thrilled by the magnificent performance Once upon a Time, where students sang live and danced to the tunes from Disney films of popular fairytales such as Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, Anastasia, Aladdin, The Jungle Book and The Little Mermaid.
The audience of education officials, parents, students and teachers showered praise on the young student-singers for their exciting performance. The colourful backdrops and the computer-generated animation added that special touch that brought to life the memorable tales.
Another artistic item in the evening was The Rhythm of Freedom, a creative and symbolic dance inspired by educator and pedagogist Paolo Freire, with music by Joaquin Cortés.
The pleasant evening ended with the singing of the national anthem.
