When did the elections for the European parliament start?
The first elections for the European parliament were held in 1979. In the previous three decades, the European parliament was a Parliamentary Assembly made up of members of parliament chosen from the national parliaments of their respective member states. European parliament elections are conducted by varying electoral procedures according to member states.
