Suspended jail term

Noel Azzopardi, 25, of St Julians, was yesterday given an 18-month jail term suspended for two years after he was found guilty of being in possession of cannabis resin in August last year.

In handing down its judgement, the court considered that the accused had already been convicted twice for similar offences in 2000, and had been given a probation order and a prison term. But the accused still appeared not to have learnt anything.

In sentencing him to a suspended prison term, the court took into consideration that Azzopardi had filed a guilty plea at an early stage of the proceedings.

Inspector Maurice Curmi prosecuted.
