Fiacal Mahouachi, a Tunisian living in Malta, was yesterday remanded in custody after being charged with stealing a mobile phone from two youths.
The police claim Mahouachi held the two at knifepoint on May 10 at 9 p.m. at Zabbar and stole their mobile phone.
He was also charged with relapsing, having been found guilty five times since June 1995 and having breached a probation order.
The prosecution objected to Mahouachi being given bail as although he was married to a Maltese he had been separated from his wife, his children were in a home and he could easily abscond. He could also tamper with evidence, Police Inspector Geoffrey Cilia argued.
Dr Richard Sladden appeared for Mahouachi.
