Support for anti-hunting stand

Nature Trust Malta, the environmental NGO, is supporting MEP candidate Arnold Cassola in his call for the removal of the concession acquired by the Maltese government to allow hunting during spring.

Nature Trust said it hoped other MEP candidates would do the same.

It said the concession until 2010 was linked to stricter law enforcement and stronger law monitoring, conditions that are evidently not being observed due to the widespread infringements by the hunting community coupled with inappropriate staff numbers and apparatus resources of the police administrative and law enforcement unit. The work of the police in such circumstances, especially the Gozo section, deserved praise, Nature Trust said.

It urged the electorate to show its preference during the European elections for candidates who supported the removal of the concession.
