European Schoolnet has launched the fourth edition of the eLearning Awards, a competition for the best use by schools of information and communication technology (ICT) in education.
Since 2001, a total of €137,000 in prize money has been awarded in this prestigious competition.
This year over €30,000 in prizes can be won by schools in the various award categories sponsored by partners. Representatives from winning projects will be invited to a glittering award ceremony in Prague in November.
The different award categories correspond to the main focuses of European and national efforts in education and highlight common European cultural values by investing in human capacities and teachers' professionalism. Teaching and learning at European schools is rewarded through the recognition of excellent resources, effective services, working ideas and imaginative solutions.
Awards are given to ongoing or recently finalised educational projects and activities. The idea is not to do something for the eLearning Awards but to submit what you do to the awards.
Schools at different levels are targeted, as are teacher training centres. The awards also cater to the needs of different types of learners.
Projects will be evaluated by educational experts from all over Europe. Among the key areas evaluated are: production, networking, learning community, content, didactics, pedagogical innovation and transferability.
The top level eLearning Awards are the first, second and third prizes, called the "Young digital Poland award for the best use of ICT in education". Other top awards are the Microsoft award for "Best learning object" and the Intel award for "Best use of ICT in mathematics and science".
The European Computer Driving Licence foundation (ECDL) is this year sponsoring a new special category: "Municipal and regional education institutions". Other category awards are the "Blackboard award for school collaboration", the "Nisai Education award for culture" and the "Oracle award for global reach through the use of ICT".
European Schoolnet is supported by the European Commission.
Schools are invited to submit their projects before the deadline on September 1 to be eligible for the awards. Submissions are made through the project website: http://elearningawards.eun.org
