Public endorsements for EP elections candidate

Former Health Minister Vincent Moran, Godfrey Pirotta and Fr Colin Apap have publicly endorsed Joseph Muscat, who is standing for the European parliament elections on behalf of the Labour Party.

Speaking at a gathering, Dr Moran expressed his confidence in Mr Muscat's abilities and described him as one of the most capable candidates standing for the elections.

The former minister said the Labour candidate had a huge responsibility to shoulder. "You will have to work to maximise the advantages of European Union membership and to minimise the disadvantages. You will have to do so in the best tradition of Labour," he told him.

The head of the Department of Public Policy in the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy at the University of Malta, Prof. Pirotta, who tutored Mr Muscat during his university years, described him as a determined person who always achieved his goals.

Prof. Pirotta said that history showed that the Nationalist Party did not work in the country's best interests in the past. "We must be wise enough not to trust these kinds of people. Instead, we should give a vote of confidence to candidates such as Joseph Muscat who are committed to work for the best benefit of the country."

Fr Apap said Mr Muscat was the much-needed new face of the workers' movement in Malta. Mr Muscat was one of those persons capable of working in the constantly changing political circumstances.

During the gathering those present collected Lm100 which were donated to Fr Apap, whose chapel at Hal Mula was robbed the night before.
