Passports issued in Malta after tomorrow will bear the words Unjoni Ewropea on the front cover, the Department of Civil Registration said.

This was to show that the Maltese now were also European citizens, the department said.

Passports will continue to be issued through the filling of an application form A, which is submitted along with two passport photographs, the expired passport and the relevant payment.

The department said that any passport issued before May 1 would remain valid until its expiry date.

At the same time, anyone wishing to change his or her passport could do so by following the normal procedures indicated above.

In case of any difficulty, one can contact the Passport Office on 2122 2286 or 2123 9658 or e-mail civil.registration@gov.mt.
