Four qualified coaches and a top official from Liverpool FC yesterday led the first training sessions at the Corradino Hockey Complex which signalled the start of the inaugural soccer training camp for youths, organised jointly by the Merseyside club and its supporters organisation in Malta.

Coaches Stuart Gelling, responsible for the U-14s, Iain Brunskill, in charge of the U-10 and U-11 group and community coaches Gareth Evans and James Parry led the first training programme under the surveillance of Liverpool FC Youth Academy Operations Manager Frank Skelly.

They will be assisted by Maltese coaching staff made up of Paul Zammit, Stephen Grima, John Holland, Iro Curmi, Pierre Brincat, Marco Grech, Ronald Vella and goalkeepers' coaches Saviour Darmanin and Mark Ciantar.

Liverpool Supporters Club Malta officials yesterday said the promotion campaign was short, but effective.

In all, they have 210 participants. There will be two daily sessions up to Thursday and a special event on Friday at the Gozo Stadium, starting at 4.30 p.m.

Tomorrow, the Liverpool FC coaching quartet will conduct a lecture for local youth coaches and PE Teachers at the Liverpool Supporters Club base in Mosta.

Skelly said they were looking forward for an eventful week of training and teaching football skills to Maltese youngsters. There was total collaboration with the Malta supporters club and the two sides are seeking to make the football training camp an annual fixture at this time of the year.
