Lombard Bank Malta's commemorative issue of limited edition silver ingots, marking Malta's accession to the EU, sold out in a matter of days.

The response to the issue was overwhelming, resulting in a large number of applications being turned down.

The bank said the success of the limited edition of 2,000 pure silver ingots encouraged it to mark other momentous and historical events with similar issues in the future.
