French Ambassador Patrick Chrismant, on behalf of the President of the French Republic, recently awarded Prof. David Attard the grade of Chevalier dans l'Ordre National de la Legion d'Honneur.
The award ceremony was held at the residence of the ambassador at Zebbug in the presence of President Eddie Fenech Adami and President Emeritus Guido de Marco.
The Legion d'Honneur is France's highest civilian honour. It was created by Napoleon Bonaparte in May 1802 and is conferred upon French citizens or foreigners for outstanding achievements in military or civil life.
The French Ambassador said France wished to award Prof. Attard particularly for his work towards the establishment of the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies, his efforts for the codification of progressive development of international law, and the teaching of international maritime law on a comparative basis which takes into account the needs of lawyers from civil law countries.
