On May 3 the Malta Centre for Restoration will celebrate its fifth anniversary. A seminar on the role and training of the conservator in Malta will be held on the day at the centre in Bighi.

The seminar will be opened at 8.30 a.m. by the Minister of Tourism and Culture, Dr Francis Zammit Dimech, and will be chaired by President Emeriturs Ugo Mifsud Bonnici. The seminar will be concluded at 6 p.m.

The centre has been offering a Bachelor in Conservation and Restoration Studies (Honours) degree for these five years and this year launched a Master of Conservation in Applied Conservation Studies.

The Malta Centre for Restoration, through its Institute for Conservation and Restoration Studies, wishes to ensure that the different courses offered by the centre are in line with the national needs. This seminar will provide an opportunity to examine the courses and their content in the national and European contexts.

The various cultural heritage stakeholders will be involved as much as possible in this evaluation process and will discuss the skills expected from a conservator in Malta and how training enables the conservator to gather such skills.

The seminar is free and is open to all persons with a particular interest in the subject. Early registration is strongly encouraged, preferably before Wednesday. A limited number of places are available.
