Today the Scout Association will be holding its first National Backwoods Cooking Competition. Sponsored by Knorr, this will be held at the Ghajn Tuffieha Scout Centre from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

No fewer than 22 Troops taking part in this event, each fielding a team of six Scouts. Each team will be given a box of ingredients to cook a three-course meal. They will be cooking on an open fire and are not allowed to use cooking utensils such as pots and pans.

This competition was the idea of Martin Camilleri, Scout Leader of St Michaels School Scout Group and who is also a chef by profession. Tony Theuma, a member of Eurotoques Malta, will be heading the judging team which will be made up of five persons from the Scout Association and another five from the Malta Culinary Association.

The public is invited to visit the Scout Centre and watch the proceedings. There will be a tuckshop serving hot snacks and drinks.
