As a result of the objections voiced by the Malta Federation of Industry (FOI) both in writing and in meetings held with the Minister for Information Technology and Investment, and the Commissioner for Data Protection, together with the Malta Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise, the Malta Employers' Association and the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association over the past months, the notifications fees chargeable to employers under the Data Protection Act have now been drastically reduced.

The FOI believed that these fees would have just been an additional tax that would further contribute to an increase in enterprises' operating expenses and add to their current problems of competing in the prevailing difficult market conditions.

This substantial downscaling of the fees was achieved for the benefit of business operators in all categories.

Any FOI member company wishing to acquire further details of the revised fee structure can contact the FOI Secretariat on tel: 2123-4428 or 2122-2074.
