A 51-hour car wash marathon to raise money in aid of children in Albania kicked off yesterday evening.

The weekend-long marathon is being held by the group Zghazagh Nazzarenu. This summer 14 of the group's members will go to Albania to set up a summer camp in two poor villages close to Durres, Lech Merdieta and Flaácke.

The car wash is being held to raise money which will be used to help Albanian children.

The non-stop marathon is being held at the Ta' Xbiex Yacht Marina, near the Black Pearl restaurant, and dozens of young people will be washing cars against a donation of Lm1.50 for each car.

Meanwhile various DJs, local bands and singers will be performing.

Since the Albanian children who will be taking part in the summer camp lack basic things which children normally have, Zghazagh Nazzarenu is asking people for donations of toys and sweets that can be taken to Albania. These can be handed over during the car wash or given to Fr Charles Tabone, OP, who will accompany the youths to Albania, at the Dominican Priory in Sliema.
