The construction of the Radisson SAS Golden Sands Resort and Spa is well under way and on schedule for opening in spring of 2005.

The resort will create 250 new job opportunities across the various departments within this new property, Winston V. Zahra, Island Hotels Group's managing director, said.

Moreover, the resort, the latest Island Hotels Group development and the fourth within the group's portfolio, will generate millions of Maltese liri of foreign earnings over the next few years due to the specialised marketing techniques being used to sell the club concept within the property, he said.

Vassallo Builders are the building contractors while Panta Marketing have been entrusted with the mechanical and engineering contract. Many other contracts have now also been awarded and various trades have started to move into the site.

When complete, the resort will incorporate 300 luxury suites and extensive public areas including two large lobby areas, a number of bars and catering outlets, a state of the art 1,200 square metre conference centre incorporating a 600 square metre ballroom, a number of syndicate rooms and a business centre.

The ballroom will also cater for events and weddings and will be another unique venue for Island Caterers, the group's events catering company.

The unique features of the ballroom will include extensive terraces overlooking the beautiful bay below. At beach level, there will be a number of outlets to cater for the people who frequent Golden Bay. There will also be a water sports and diving centre, offering a large variety of sea sports.

The Radisson SAS Golden Sands Resort and Spa is being extensively promoted to conference and incentive organisers on the international market and to date excellent results have been registered, Mr Zahra said.
