Car wash to raise money for missionary work in Albania

A group of 14 young people who are members of Zghazagh Nazzarenu Group, will be leaving Malta in July for missionary work in Albania.

The mission will set up a summer camp for poor children in Lech Merdieta and Flaácke, two very poor villages close to the city of Durres.

Accompanied by Fr Charles Tabone, OP, the Maltese youths will be helping the Dominican project in Albania.

There are more than 300 children to help, whose ages vary from six to teenagers. The summer camp will include teaching them life-skills, crafts, and other life-practices. It will also involve excursions and fun-days for the Albanian children.

The group is working hard to raise money for the trip. For this reason, they are organising a 51-hour non-stop car wash marathon, with entertainment, between Friday and Sunday at Ta' Xbiex Yacht Marina (near the Black Pearl restaurant).

A donation of Lm1.50 will be asked for each car. Performing on a stage set up in the area will be various top DJ's, local bands and famous Maltese singers.

This is the fourth time that the group is organising a car wash marathon. In the past years, funds were raised for St Rita's Home for children in Tarxien and for St Patrick's Home in Sliema.

Apart from money, the group is also asking for donations of toys and sweets which will be taken to Albania as part of their mission. Those interested can give such donations either at the car wash marathon, or personally to Fr Charles at the Dominican Priory, Sliema (next door to Nazzarenu church).
