Two people were injured, one of them seriously, in a head-on collision on Hal-Far Road in Birzebbuga yesterday at 6.15 a.m.

The police said that a 47-year-old man from Zabbar, driving a Volkswagen Polo, was slightly injured, while a 21-year-old man from Tarxien, driving a Seat Ibiza, was seriously injured.

The Seat driver had to be taken out of his car by members of the Civil Protection Department.

In another accident which happened at 11.30 a.m. in the St Venera Bypass, a 29-year-old woman from Birkirkara, who was driving an Opel Vectra, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into one of the tunnel walls.

The woman was seriously injured but is not in danger. The car was badly damaged.
