The Nationalist Party considers June's European Parliament elections to be an opportunity for the Maltese people to choose the best representatives who will not only work for a new Europe but also for Malta, PN leader Lawrence Gonzi said yesterday.
Addressing a meeting of the Gozo organisation committee, Dr Gonzi said the party made sure its candidates represent Maltese ideals, identity and culture. He said they also represent society, with two of them being women.
On the contrary, he said, the Labour Party had failed to present even one female candidate.
Dr Gonzi said that while the PN list included a Gozitan, the MLP failed to present a candidate from Gozo.
The PN leader said June's election should be a clear vote in favour of the EU, and therefore people should vote for those candidates who would present the Maltese people's interests - the candidates who are contesting in the PN's name.
Dr Gonzi said Malta's EU accession is important not only for the country, but also for the PN, which will become part of the biggest political force in Europe - the European Popular Party (EPP).
