Recently the Foundation for Educational Services (FES) and Dun Karm Psaila Boys' Secondary School, Zebbug, organised a parent-to-parent course for parents of students attending the school.
The aim of this activity is to empower parents to come together and help each other discuss issues and concerns which relate to their lives. This is done through the help and guidance of facilitators from FES who help parents focus in a deeper manner on the issues concerned.
At Dun Karm Psaila Boys' Secondary parents chose to focus on ways in which they can help their children read in English. The parent-to-parent course helped them develop practical hands-on activities in this respect.
During the final evening of the course, parents organised a session of activities with their sons during which the skills acquired during the course were put to good use.
At the end of this evening, certificates of participation were distributed by the head of school, Robert N. Borg, and by Victor Galea from FES. Commenting on the significance of the course, they both stressed the importance of parents' involvement in the school for the educational benefit of students.
