Physical Education is an informal method of teaching and learning that offers opportunities for children, no matter their intellectual and physical abilities, to learn about and appreciate their environment and acquire skills to enjoy a lifetime of creative, productive and health-filled living.

At San Andrea Early School, the PE curriculum functions to implement this principal concept. As the PE teacher, my role is to provide a creative educational approach that encourages the children to be motivated during their regular lessons whilst teaching them to acquire the basic skills such as locomotor and psychomotor development.

The PE programme also validates the importance of inclusion, social learning and health education, in that it instills in the children a meaningful sense of interaction, tolerance and security. They are given space to find expression for both their physical and mental energy.

The ultimate aim of this developmental programme is to exhibit the children's achievements in the Annual Field Day, which is in itself a fulfilling event both for the children and their parents as well as the school staff. Throughout the scholastic year the children are additionally taught to value and respect the outdoors as they familiarise themselves with nature during several country walks and cleanups organised in the neighbouring valley.

The PE lesson is the time of day that the children look forward to, for the framework of the lessons is furnished with musical, colourful and adventurous experiences. Physical education works to enrich, revitalise and complement all content areas of the school curriculum by means of firsthand observation and direct experience in open spaces and out-of-doors.
